If you want to learn Arabic then you probably belong to, or have lived most of your life in, one of the non-Arabic speaking countries above. You will probably need to talk about your cultural background if you travel to an Arabic speaking country. Here are some Arabic words and phrases that can help you respond to some of the most frequently asked questions relevant to nationalities:
Where are you from? |
Men ayna anta? |
I am from Japan |
Ana men al-yapan. |
(This is an excerpt from Nour Academy's Arabic Course)
It is also important to note that the feminine form of nationalities differs from the male form. In Arabic, in order to differentiate between a man and a woman we add something called Ta2 al-taaneeth (تاء التأنيث) for the female form of the Arabic words:
Soad is from Spain. She is Spanish |
Soad mn Ispania. Heya Ispaneya. |
(This is an excerpt from Nour Academy's Arabic Course)
I am from Tunisia, I am Tunisian. |
Ana mn tones, ana toneseya. |
(This is an excerpt from Nour Academy's Arabic Course)
He is French and she is French too. |
Howa ferensey w heya frenseyaton aydan. |
(This is an excerpt from Nour Academy's Arabic Course)
